In this modern age when obesity is taking on the overtones of a national epidemic and proving a prospective problem to the government, many people are overtly worried about their fitness, and are now taking to the Gyms to get their body into an overall healthy shape and to enhance their fitness levels. Gyms have conveniently sprung up everywhere and people are making a beeline there to enjoy the advantages of regular workouts.

The Gyms, on their part are modernizing themselves with the latest and most efficient fitness equipment that will give their customers maximum workout benefit. This news has come as a breadth of fresh air to beginners and established gym enthusiasts who are looking forward to take their training to higher levels to achieve better fitness goals. Read on and you will get a comprehensive idea on the type of fitness equipment a good gym will provide. You can use these facilities in a gym or have them installed at your home if you have the space and the convenience.

Floor Equipment

These could well work out as your first addition to the home gym equipment that you already possess, and could turn out as your most used pieces of home gym equipment. However, you should check on the product durability and the cushion thickness to ensure that it will be good for over thousand workouts and safeguard your spine at the same time.

Treadmill

As most of you are aware, the treadmill provides you an indoor alternative to outdoor jogging or running. You run on a conveyor-style belt that you can adjust to different speeds to allow you to enjoy customized workouts. These treadmills also provide facilities for inclines and interval training that enhances your options for workout. They also come with safety keys that help to thwart the possibilities of accidents.

Elliptical Machines

These machines provide a complete body workout. They tone up your muscles and improve your cardiovascular well-being without joint stress. The foot pedals that fit round your shoes for security provide for an elliptical or circular motion while the handles provide a good workout for your upper body. You can plan tougher workouts by adjusting the resistance and incline.

Stationary Bikes

Stationary bikes with a single front wheel are the indoor alternative to the Cardio exercise of cycling. These bikes have movable arms to afford a total body workout, cushioned seats and strapped pedals for enhanced safety and comfort and front wheel guards to prevent accidents. You can get these bikes in a recumbent, semi-recumbent or upright design.

Rowing

These machines provide a low impact workout and reduce the pressures on your joints. By working on this machine, which is akin to outdoor rowing, you work out both your upper and lower body equally. The great advantage here is that the machine is foldable and does not take up too much space.

However, take the advice of a physical trainer on the way to go about the above exercises and ask for the time duration, to avoid any problems of exaggerated efforts due to over-exuberance.

Line dancing is perfect for the single person who wants to get out and meet new friends, get some some exercise and just enjoy the conviviality that goes with Boot scootin 'country music! Mostly based on country and western music there are some great dances based on other types of music as well.

Dancers come from all the echelons of society to learn new ways of finding out where they have forgotten muscles. The clothing worn does not have to be expensive; most people have a pair of jeans in their wardrobe. Jazz up the jeans with all sorts of boots and bling to suit the occasion. Some women like to wear skirts in all styles, ranging from the tiered look to short skirts. Tee shirts are appropriate and worn by either men or women. The girls always look nice in gypsy styled tops, which are very fashionable now any way.

The shoes or boots worn should be comfortable and have soles that you can twist, scuff and sachet on! This rather rules out sneakers or sport shoes but some people manage just fine with them too. If you are keen to get some proper boots, go for the better quality ones. They come in many materials, or hides to get the look! Check out the stitching to see if the quality is there. The bottom line in clothing is really wear what you feel the most comfortable in and can enjoy yourself line dancing.

There are hundreds of dances and variations of similar movements. There is at least a 1000 dances and that number increases as the years go by. Choreographers write the steps and fit them to the music they require, there is such a huge range of country music and others to choose. The beats vary from waltzes to rock 'n roll the latter tends to be danced by the experienced dancers and is amazing to watch if you suffer from two left feet. People I know have learnt over 350 dances and have been in the line-dancing scene for many years.

Learning requires a patient teacher and a patient pupil! For the older learner it is a totally new experience trying to learn dance movements, generally because it's been many years for some since they got into active participation of sports or exercise. There are some dances especially for beginners, and as the steps are mastered, your range of dances increases, as does the level of expertise. Find yourself a local club and enjoy the line-dancing scene. It is inevitably friendly and no one feels stupid for not being able to learn as fast as others are.

Hi everyone! I am going to show you how to quickly start a personal training business.

This is the # 1 most commonly asked question! In the previous question, we talked about figuring out if this is the right industry for you. Now, we can get down to the basics of building a very successful fitness business.

First, inventory your skills & resources. Who do you know that would be interested in your services? Who do you know with connections to journalism, media, and public relations, to help get the word out? How about other business owners you are already friendly with, so you can learn from them and collaborate with them? In particular, finding a successful trainer with a great business is an awesome way to jump start your success.

Second, you will want to get a certification (even though it is not required by law!). Yes, having a good certification is important to get started, but we will talk more about that later. You will also need liability insurance (which will be discounted if you have a certification), a waiver form, a Par-Q form, and other forms to keep track of your clients and legally protect yourself and your business.

Third, what kind of people and clients do you want to serve. You may not have a clear idea right now, and that is ok, but keep this question in mind as you pursue your career and work with clients. A great tip is to follow your passions, whether it’s body building, power lifting, a team sport, a certain group of people, or even gardening, sailing, or skiing. Connecting with people you are passionate about, (their goals, their personalities, their abilities, their demographic, their activities, etc.) is one of the keys to being very successful and making work feel like fun and not a boring job!

Now where would you like to work? A gym? A private training studio? In home? For a bootcamp? These are the most common fitness jobs, but other options include working in a physical therapist’s or chiropractor’s office, a senior center, and after school programs or summer camps. In fact, one of the beautiful things about this industry is there are so many people who need our help. There are so many different kinds of opportunities out there; there is really no limit to the kinds of job and work environments you can create for yourself and your business.

Keep in mind that most trainers who are just getting started work out of a gym, because it provides more structure, mentoring/training, and clients. It’s very difficult to start you own business right off the bat unless you already have contacts, experience starting a business, a loyal following, and a good amount of exercise knowledge and experience under your belt. One of the key upcoming videos will show you exactly how you can tell if it is time to pull the trigger and start your own business. If it is not time, this will show you exactly what you need to do to make sure your business launch is a complete success.

The power of habit is the corner stone of good discipline. Discipline is essential to have when cultivating a fit and healthy body.

I’ve been a fan of Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and I couldn’t help wonder if these same exact habits are applicable in fitness.

After doing some correlating, I discovered some fascinating things. Here’s what I discovered.

The Private Victory of fitness is made up of the first 3 habits that lead to independence.

Habit 1: Be proactive

Being proactive in your fitness is about having the initiative and responsibility to engage in the sport of physical activity of your desire. With or without the help of others.

If you want to get into a sport, activity or recreation badly enough, don’t let solitude, isolation or lack of money stop you. I’ve learned several styles of martial on my own initiative by looking for information and experimentation through just exploring those styles through practice.

As long as you have the genuine desire and a mind to learn with, you can just start.

Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind

This isn’t just about having a goal but rather, having a goal that inspires you.

So, for you to be able to achieve your private victory in your fitness, base your programs, exercises, workouts and training sessions towards what you really want to achieve with your body.

What do you want to be able to do with your body?

What inspires you to the point that you yourself want to embody those skills or abilities?

What could you aspire to by developing or improving a specific skill, sport or physical activity?

If you master this habit of envisioning exactly what you want in your fitness and why, then every exercise, routine or workout you choose will naturally compel you.

Habit 3: Make first things first

In order for fitness to be a way of life it has to be prioritised. So, in order to make fitness first in your life, you either make it first in your heart or first on the clock.

What do I mean by that? If your fitness is geared towards a workout session or exercise routine around a sport or physical activity you are truly inspired and passionate about, then you will find a schedule that you know deep down you’ll be able to commit to consistently.

On the other hand, if your fitness is anything less than a burning passion and you struggle to show up, then you need to prioritise it in your day by either doing it first thing in the morning or if you can, first thing as soon as you come home or right after work. Make it the first thing before you move on to anything else and you’ll have one less excuse.

The public victory is about habits that supports your growth in a group fitness environment no matter what sport you play. They are also the 3 habits that lead to interdependence in fitness. Interdependence can be a powerful way to leverage collaboration to make gains and progress in fitness while at the same time being a source of leverage for somebody else in their fitness.

Habit 4: Think win/win

Whether you play competitively or you just play for fun, your likely to have some humbling moments where you experience defeat by a rival or just feel less adept than others.

Thinking win/win is about seeing the value in such humbling moments as for it is in these moments that are trying to get you to improve your game and performance by showing you some weaknesses.

Just see every defeat as an opportunity to ask some fresh questions and receive some fresh insights and information. You’d be amazed at how such humbling moments can open your eyes to something you weren’t aware of before. Even criticism about your technique is valuable because you can’t see yourself in 3rd person POV and I guarantee that from your 1st person POV, you miss some things.

Habit 5: Seek first to understand before seeking to be understood

In a group fitness environment, it’s extremely useful to maintain the attitude of a student. Even if …

It is a common perception among women that oral contraceptives are associated with weight gain. However, Norplant and Depo-Provera are the only hormonal contraceptives that include specific statements that the expected change in weight is an increase, while the other contraceptives describe that there may be an increase or decrease in weight as a result of this drug. Since more than one million women used Depo-Provera and greater than 500,000 used Norplant, it is important to determine whether the use of these drugs can be expected to promote weight in women.

A group of researchers from Pennsylvania State University studied whether the use of progestational contraceptives caused an imbalance in energy regulation that lead to weight gain. Specifically, Pelkman et al. examined whether depot medroxy-progesterone acetate was associated with an increase in food intake or a decrease in resting energy expenditure (REE) in young women.

Body weight, REE, and 3-day food intake were measured in 20 normal-weight women during the follicular and luteal phases of two menstrual cycles. These measurements were taken either before a single injection of Depo-Provera or saline solution (control). The subjects were in the testing laboratory for four days. They consumed only foods and beverages that were provided during the first three days and were weighed in the morning on the first and fourth days; REE was measured before breakfast on the first day of each test session by indirect calorimetry.

Subjects consumed 4.3% more energy and expended 4.3% more energy at rest during the luteal phase as compared to the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle. Treatment with Depo-Provera or depot medroxyprogesterone acetate had no significant effect on food intake, body weight, or REE over the three-month testing period.

This experiment showed that although this phase of the menstrual cycle affected both energy intake and REE, Depo-Provera did not cause any short-term weight gain in young healthy, normal-weight women. Further research is needed to determine whether similar effects occur with different contraceptive hormones, over longer periods of time, and in other populations, such as overweight or obese women.

Nearly all of my coworkers know that I am on the this diet. The other day, one of my female coworkers told me that she thought that her grocery store was sold out of Medifast products, as she searched the diet section or aisle of the store and couldn’t find any of the shakes or foods next to the slim fast shakes or by the weight watchers diet foods. I had to explain to her that these products (even the shakes and bars) aren’t sold in grocery stores. So, she responded by asking if our town had any of the clinics or doctors offices that would sell them. Nope, I answered, this diet isn’t like Jenny Craig where you have to get your food from the clinic or center and it isn’t like some of the severe liquid diets that must be prescribed by a doctor. So where can you purchase Medifast? I’ll fully answer this question and tell you why I think that one method is far better than another in the following article.

Getting Medifast From eBay Or Craigslist (And Why I No Longer Think That This Is The Best Way To Go:) Basically, there are three ways to buy these products. You can get them second hand on sites like eBay or Craigslist. You can buy them on line directly from the company itself. Or, you can link to them through third party sites that offer support, coupons, recipes, etc. In the past, I have purchased foods from eBay and Craigslist, but I no longer do this. Here’s why. Some of the foods I have purchased in the past were expired, stale, or no longer sealed. If you’re going to purchase the products second hand, make absolutely sure that you are buying from a seller with flawless feedback.

I eventually abandoned this method because I found that by using coupons and specials, I was actually sometimes paying less (or least not much more) for the food by getting it directly from the manufacturer than by buying it second hand. And, I was getting my food new and straight from the source. In actuality, at around $299 per month (usually less with coupons and specials), these foods are often less on what you would spend on groceries, so it wasn’t worth it to me to buy something that I was actually going to regularly put in my body from someone I didn’t know.

Purchasing And Buying Medifast Online: You can go right to the company’s website and buy anything that you need. You can buy the products individually or you can buy a monthly package that will give you roughly 150 meals which you will eat five times per day (this is by far the cheapest way to go.) But before you do that, make sure that you first check out the latest specials and coupon codes. This can save you a lot of money. The company almost always has something discounted or is offering up to two weeks of free food (this is worth over $70.) It doesn’t make sense to place an order until you’ve made sure that you can save as much money as you can.

The company usually ships your order quickly (you can expedite it if you like, but I find that it’s pretty fast using the standard shipping and a lot cheaper.) With a little planning, you can time it so that you place your next order well before your meals run out so that you always have “safe” food on hand.

Whether it is health reasons, lack of access, a very tight schedule, the big project at work, the new baby or you are just too lazy; sometimes it is not possible for us to hit the gym. And with many fitness blogs and books telling us that hitting the gym is the only way out, things might seem hopeless at times. However, here are 5 weight loss tips for those days when visiting the gym is next to impossible.

1. Drink water before eating

Drinking water half an hour before meals is an effective weight loss strategy. This is because water plays two important roles in weight loss. First, drinking water helps you to feel full. This is important during meal times because it may help you eat a smaller portion compared to when you don’t drink water. Also, drinking water promotes improved metabolism in the body. This means that it will help you burn more calories thus resulting in weight loss.

2. Avoid unhealthy snacking between meals

Most people fail to understand the fact that unhealthy snacking between meals usually leads to weight gain. Therefore, if you have been wondering why you are not getting any results after months of dieting and vigorous exercise, maybe it’s because of that chocolate bar that you always sneak in between lunch and dinner. If you have to snack, then always be prepared to fight those hunger pangs by packing some fruit and other healthy snacks in advance that you can access easily when hunger strikes.

3. Use smaller plates and bowls

It is natural for us to always to load up our plates so they are full. Sometimes our eyes can be bigger than our bellies though! Using big plates and bowls will generally translate to eating larger portions of food. On the contrary, using smaller plates and bowls usually means eating smaller portions. It is a way we can trick our brains into believing that we are full and satisfied. As we eat with our eyes as well as our mouths. By doing this, we can still eat a full plate of food without having to worry about the extra calories or overeating.

4. Get active

Hitting the gym is an effective way of losing weight but getting there isn’t always possible. Being sedentary will not get you that “beach body” that you desire. You need to get yourself moving by being on the move as much as possible. Take the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator or take an afternoon walk for at least half an hour. Do some squats while waiting for your coffee to be ready or sneak in some lunges and jumping jacks over lunch hour – just find a way to get active and incorporate exercise into your daily routine.

5. Keep a food diary

Weight loss is a game of calories. If you find a way to decrease your calorie intake and increase the amount of calories you burn by boosting your metabolism and by exercising, then you will most definitely lose weight. Be vigilant in paying attention to the labels and nutritional information on every item you consume. Keep a food diary to help you keep track of your diet and calorie intake. There are some really effective apps for doing that these days. Be honest with yourself and note down everything, that means even the seemingly little snacks, as it all adds up

It is true that spending regular time at the gym can give you faster results when it comes to weight loss. However, to be realistic, sometimes we cannot go to the gym for a variety of reasons – especially if we are frequently traveling. The weight loss tips covered in this article can really come in handy during situations like this. It might take a while but with perseverance, you will eventually be just a few steps away from your desired “beach body”.

When it comes to elliptical trainers there is no one player who dominates the entire price range of models. There are different manufacturers who excel at different prices. For example, Icon Fitness rules the sub $ 1,000 price range through their various subsidiaries, including ProForm, Image, Weslo, Reebok and Nordic Track. The high-end is dominated by companies like Life Fitness and Precor.

In the mid-range category you have a number of contenders, but one company that is worth noting is Smooth Fitness. They are building quality elliptical trainers at a price that makes them a good value.

Selling Direct to the Consumer

For those unfamiliar with Smooth Fitness, they predominantly sell on the Internet. In fact, you cannot find their elliptical trainers at any stores. Their value proposition is to sell direct, thus cutting out the expenditure of the middleman.

Think about the expenses that are incurred when a company sells fitness equipment in a retail store. Besides the cost of the space, you also have to factor in the commissions paid to the salespeople. Selling online not only saves on retail costs, but also avoids the addition charge of local taxes. That can add up.

It should be noted that Smooth Fitness makes some exaggerated claims regarding the reduction in price. That is typical marketing hype. And although you may not be saving over 40% on an elliptical trainer, you could be saving 5% -15% in comparison to purchasing through a retail store.

Smooth Fitness was one of the first businesses to sell high-end fitness equipment online. Initially they private labeled other brands like Spirit, Keys and Kettler. Approximately 5 years ago they started designing and manufacturing their own fitness equipment. In ten years they went from minor player to their recent inclusion in the Internet Retailer's Top 500 Guide, 2006-07 Edition. SmoothFitness.com came in at number 277 on the overall list, and was ranked the 15th largest e-tailer in the Sporting Goods category.

Smooth Elliptical Trainers Offer Value

The line-up of Smooth elliptical trainers is a perfect example why they have become a major player in the fitness equipment industry in such a short period of time. Their machines are engineered to be durable and yet provide a rewarding workout. For example, the Smooth CE 3.2 offers one of the better values in the $ 1,500 + price range. It is designed with a rear drive, which many find preferable, and claim it provides a smoother motion.

The machine itself weighs a hefty 175 lbs, adding to the stability. You get ergonomic pivoting foot pedals, that further reduce strain and impact. It comes standard with wireless heart rate control, for those who like to control and optimize their workout through their heart rate. You get a lifetime warranty on the frame and electromagnetic brake system, in addition to a 2 year parts and 1 year labor warranty.

One feature I particularly like is the built-in heart rate sensors in the upper handlebars . You will find that most elliptical trainers have heart rate monitors, but they are built into stationary handlebars. In order to get your heart rate you have to discontinue the upper body workout and hold onto the stationary handles, which defeats the purpose of the dual action workout.

Smooth Fitness currently has three elliptical trainers that are priced from $ 1,300- $ 2,000, they are the Smooth CE 2.1, 3.2 and 7.4. All their prices include shipping. Like other fitness equipment companies, the standard delivery is to your curbside. You may want to pay the extra few dollars to have their turnkey service, which includes inside delivery and set-up.

There is no question that there are better built elliptical trainers on the market. For example, Precor makes commercial grade elliptical trainers for the home. But they come with a commercial grade price, which is more than twice the cost of the Smooth Ellipticals. Of course, there are cheaper machines, but they are built with cheap components, which is reflected in a very limited warranty. The coverage is often 90 days parts and labor.

Combining quality and a average price, the Smooth elliptical trainers are one of the better values in the $ 1,000 – $ …

The P90X personal fitness program is best described as an advanced personal fitness training program. It is meant to be implemented at home through a combination of exercises and dietary modifications. It is aimed at people, who already have decent levels of physical fitness, but who aspire to “take it to the next higher level.”

It is worth noting that most of the physical training programs available on the market today are designed for people, who recognize themselves as physically unfit and are simply aspiring to attain basic physical fitness. Unfortunately, the designers of physical fitness training programs seem to have forgotten that there is another group of people, and that is those, who are already reasonably fit and want to be fitter. This is the group for which the P90X was designed. However, other groups of people can benefit from its exercises as well.

Structure of the P90X personal fitness program

As mentioned earlier, this is a program with efficacy based on exercises and dietary modifications.

The specific physical exercises used in the program mainly fall into five categories:

1. Cardiovascular workouts

2. Strength training workouts

3. Yoga moves

4. Stretching exercises

5. Plyometrics

These are stretched over a 90 day period and divided into 13 weeks. Participants need to work out 6 days a week. Individual daily workout sessions are supposed to be less than one hour.

The dietary modification aspect starts with a high protein and low carbohydrate phase. Percentage of proteins in the diet is increased progressively. This is accompanied by a commensurate increase in the rigor of physical exercises.

Objectives of the P90X personal fitness, and how they are achieved

The key objective of P90X personal fitness program is to get rid of “plateaus” that frustrate those working towards advanced personal fitness. These plateaus manifest when the body adapts to physical exercises and creates a situation, where exercises no longer yield desired outcomes. Thus, a person performing strength training is likely to see improvements in physical strength initially, but regardless of how hard he or she works, there are no further gains beyond a certain point. The person has reached a plateau.

To get rid of plateaus, designers of the P90X personal fitness programs devised what they refer to as “muscle confusion” strategies. With the help of these, growth is sustained throughout the personal fitness program. Thus, people, who attained what appeared to be their “highest potential'” in terms of physical fitness, are actually able to progress to higher levels of fitness.

The objective of the dietary modification aspect of the P90X personal fitness program is to provide participants with the “fuel” they need for often rigorous exercises. This is mainly achieved through the use of a carbohydrate-rich “athletes” diet.
