“He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything”.

(Thomas Carlyle)

Health is far better than wealth. Better health is considered essential for human happiness and well-being. Persons who are physically and mentally healthy also play a very vital role in the economic growth of their country as they are more productive and live longer.

Being healthy is considered a dynamic process as our health changes with the course of time. Every one of us has times when we feel fit and healthy and then we have times when we feel sick and unwell.

Diet plays an important role in personal health it can be described as a pattern of eating and balanced diet provides nutrients that are considered necessary to maintain our health. Studies have revealed that diet is one of the sources through which diseases such as cancer, coronary heart disease, birth defects and cataracts can be prevented.

There are many food items which are suggested by doctors and experts that are considered healthy and must be included in every meal. Some of these food items are green tea, oats, curd, olive oil, salad etc.

We can also lose weight by adjusting some of our diet plans and eating habits.

Mentioned below are some diet tips to lose weight while staying healthy:

Eat fresh and organic foods. Recent research and studies have revealed that pesticide, herbicides and other chemicals used on food and vegetables are one huge cause of obesity and weight gain.

Bite slowly and chew it. This tip is very helpful as your brain gets the message that you are eating more than you actually are. One should use smaller plates and bowls for eating as it also one way to fool your brain into believing that you have eaten more.

Water is a very important essential element of human’s body. One should drink at least 8-10 glass of water per day. During a glass of water 15 minutes before having your meal as it makes you feel fuller without eating any kind of food.

Do not drink sodas, Pepsi; cola etc. as they are full of chemicals and sugar. One bottle of Pepsi contains at least 20 tablespoons of sugar so there is no point in drinking any of these.

Other things that can help you to lose weight without losing your health are:

1- Eat your favorite meal once in every 15 days it will help you in starting afresh for your upcoming days and you will not feel deprived.

2- Include salads and vegetables in your every meal.

3- Exercise daily and consistently. If you exercise with gaps it will lead you to nowhere. Instead, you will feel frustrated.

Eating healthy is important however one should not overlook the exact meaning of the statement. Eating to stay healthy does not mean suppressing your appetite; it means to eat “smartly”. A proper and balanced diet plan can also help you to reduce your weight without losing your health.

American health care needs an updated treatment plan. The quality of care is not the issue as we have some of the best medical care in the world. People will fly in from different countries just to take advantage of our trained medical providers. But our health care policies are very short-sighted and in need of repair. I see two major flaws with our current health care system.

One is that routine preventive health care is unaffordable for many families. For many the only type of health care that they can afford is a plan with a high deductible. This type of insurance is necessary for major injuries and life-threatening situations. But in the end it leads to a lack of preventive maintenance. With such high deductibles people are hesitant to go to a doctor for the routine care that might prevent major problems down the road. And, most high deductible plans provide no dental care at all.

This is like taking a car to a mechanic only when the engine seizes up or the transmission fails. What we should be doing is changing the oil and maintaining the air pressure in the tires. Under the current state of health care this is not possible for many. As a nation we are going to face much higher costs for medical and dental care as our population ages.

The second issue is the large number of people who do not have any insurance at all. If health insurance is anything like car insurance I am forced to pay not only for my own injuries but also for the injuries of all those who choose to go without insurance. The affordable care act, commonly known as Obamacare, made an attempt to rectify this issue. In my opinion Obamacare caused as many problems as it solved but in this one area it got it right.

Obamacare certainly isn’t perfect. And Republicans are now in the process of attempting to repeal it. I can understand their logic in doing so. However, I have not seen any type of plan they have proposed that addresses the issues of preventative care and the uninsured. Whether it is Obamacare, or some other plan, something needs to be done about the large number of American citizens who live off of the hard work of others. And the fact that preventative health care is not affordable.

America is a great country. We are a very resourceful people. Most of us work very hard to provide for ourselves and our families. We should be smart enough to know how to provide high quality, and affordable, health care to all of our citizens. It may cost us more in the present but it will pay big dividends down the road.

First of all, I want to say that I’m not a mental health professional. I was a high school social studies teacher and in education for 34 years, and I do have Mental Health First Aid certification, but still, these suggestions are only personal opinion and do not represent professional advice.

• The first recommendation deals with sleep. Most professionals recommend eight hours of sleep per night for adults. More than eight hours may lead to depression or at least sluggishness. Less than eight hours may lead to anxiety or nervousness. However, I maintain that sleep does not have to be completed in one block of time. Personally, I sleep for about three hours, work on projects for an hour or two, sleep for another one or two hours; then I nap once or twice during the day when I’m tired. Sometimes naps last an hour, sometimes only ten minutes. I think the key is to sleep when your body tells you it needs rest. Of course, I’m semi-retired, and my schedule may not work for most professionals.

• A conscientious diet is helpful for mental stability. I recommend a diet high in omega-3 fatty acids. Those can include, most nuts and seeds, but most helpful are walnuts, sunflower seeds, ground flaxseeds, and soaked chia seeds. I like to soak my chia seeds in milk overnight and that combination ends up similar to a tapioca pudding. Cold water fish provide substantial omega-3 fatty acids – sardines, salmon, trout, char, and herring lead the parade in this area. Avocado is another helpful food in this area. Low fat proteins are helpful including beans, chicken, fish, and turkey. Of course a diet grounded around fruits and vegetables is important, and finally probiotics are helpful for digestion. Those can include pickles, sauerkraut, and yogurt.

• Another important step includes respect – respect yourself, treat yourself, and value yourself. Find a hobby like fishing; go to a nice restaurant or a movie once a month, keep a journal of your thoughts, or even go shopping.

• Exercise is another important aspect that bolsters your self-esteem and overall mental health. An outdoor walk, especially in a park or the woods – that provides, fresh air, strength, and the sun can provide much needed vitamin D to stave off depression.

• Finally, it is helpful to engage with others face-to-face. Conversation can provide a feeling of worth. It is beneficial to get off the smart phone and deal with people in person.

These five keys will not guarantee good mental health, but they will go a long way toward that end.

What makes your food healthy? The presence of life-sustaining nutrients like vitamins, minerals, protein, carbohydrates and so much more… but have you ever considered what role your cookware plays? Studies have found that popular metal and ceramic cookware not only affect the nutritional value of food but also make it toxic. Want to find out how? Keep reading…

The most commonly used materials for making cookware are stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, and ceramic. While they are used widely, they are not the best choice. They are not only too harsh on nutrients but also leach chemicals into food while cooking. Food gets contaminated and causes health problems when consumed regularly.

When cooking is in progress, heat acts as a catalyst and metals like aluminum, iron, nickel, magnesium, molybdenum, lead & cadmium react with the oxygen molecules, the hydrogen molecules, and nutrients that are in the form of halogens, acids, and bases. These toxins get assimilated with food and are sent to both cells and organs in body. They not only weaken the immune system but also cause chronic health problems.

Also, while cooking in these metal or ceramic pots, the heat is too harsh and causes serious damage to the nutrients and cooks by dissolving them rather than preserving them intact. Additionally, water-soluble nutrients evaporate as steam.

The result — food contaminated with toxins and lacking in nutritional value. You can hardly imagine the serious damage done to your health when you keep consuming such food regularly for a long time. Worried? Let’s focus on the solution.

A Viable Alternative

The only viable alternative is a material that is not only 100% non-toxic but can also keep the nutritional value of food intact while cooking. Recently, clay has gathered some popularity as a healthier alternative. But few people are aware that in order to make cookware from clay through any mechanized process, it needs to be treated with chemicals. Like metal cookware, these leach toxins into food while cooking and defy the whole purpose of using clay.

Read about an easy and reliable home test to identify what is leaching from your cookware?

It is important that the clay used is 100% pure and free from any kind of chemicals. Tests have shown that food cooked in pure clay pots is free from toxins. But this is not the only benefit. Such pots generate a unique far-infrared heat that penetrates deep into food and is distributed evenly without damaging the nutrients.

Also, the steam can be managed well with an ergonomic design of pot and lid. It can uniquely allow steam to circulate inside and let food cook with its own steam pressure. With straight walls of the pot, if it’s made in concentric circles with an inner flute on the lid and a cool underside of a knob will allow for steam to rise, get condensed and drop right back into the pot. This does not allow the water-soluble nutrients to evaporate as steam. Unlike metal pots, the heat produced in pure clay pots is food-friendly. It cooks food gently by spreading out evenly to every grain of food.

All these features not only keep the food healthy but also retain the natural taste.

Question: Is it compulsory that the appointed civil surgeon has to sign Part no 6 of the Form I-693, or is it enough if the health department staff signs it?

The Part No 6 has to be signed by the physician of the health department, which may be in original or could be a stamped seal. It could happen that the health department staff, like the nurse or other professionals could co-sign the form but it is not mandatory by them. What is however required, is the signature of the concerned health department’s appointed civil surgeon.

Question: Is it necessitated by the Civil Surgeon to have the Vaccination Table and the Results section completed properly in order to ensure completion of the vaccination part of the Form I-693?

Yes. This is required. The Civil Surgeon has to fill in the details of the vaccination table and the Results part completely. In the vaccination table the entire vaccination history, dates of vaccinations accorded by the Civil Surgeon etc. have to be filled up. Any other waiver requests need to be inked in too.

Question: It is now required by the Form I-693 for applicants who require a chest X ray to include a copy of the X ray report along with the I-693 file. Can you tell me as to what kind of X ray report is now acceptable?

Only a qualified and recognized radiologist’s report that is signed and sealed on an official letterhead of the hospital or medical center is acceptable by USCIS. Also, no preliminary or unfinished evaluation will be accepted by USCIS. The full evaluations or findings will have to be done and the findings recorded. In many cases the civil surgeon will have to wait for some time till this report has been dispatched by the medical office that is reviewing the case and a sign-off cannot be done on the I-693 form till this report is received.

Question: The requirements by the CDC and USCIS have been revised for the point of medical referrals, as has been notated on Form I-693. Can you tell me the instances when the Part 5’s referral section should be completed?

Sub Part 5 of Part 5 has to be completed, if the referral is required. A scenario could occur when a Class A condition is suspected and a further evaluation is needed. The Part 5 is not to be completed if the CDC only recommends Part 5. What could be done instead is have the Referral box notated with a comment.

In case you don’t know, health insurance is a type of assurance that is given based on agreed terms in case the insured person falls sick or needs medical treatment. The insured life may have a chronic condition requiring medical care for years to come. Let’s know more about it.

Who will pay for the medical expenses?

This is one of the most common questions that people ask. If you have a health insurance, you can have the peace of mind that your health will be taken care of. Actually, it is a type of agreement or contract between you (policyholder) and the company providing health insurance. The purpose of the agreement or contract is to provide protection against costs. At times, the costs are so high that the sick person is unable to pay the bills. As a result, the person is unable to get the care he needs to recover.

While you will pay a monthly or annual premium, you should expect that the amount of premium you are going to pay would be far less than the amount you would pay in case of illness.

Keep in mind that health insurance is a type of benefit that a non-profit organization, private business or a government agency provides. In order to figure out the cost, the company gets an estimate of the collective medical cost of all of the people in the state. Then the risk is divided among the policy subscribers.

As far as the concept goes, the insurer knows that one person may suffer from huge unexpected health care expenses while the other person may incur no expenses at all. So, the expense is spread across a large group of people in an effort to make the health insurance much more affordable for all the insured lives.

Aside from this, public plans are funded by the government. Therefore, they offer extra health insurance to the vulnerable groups like people with disabilities and seniors.

Let’s take an example to understand the concept better. A person with Cerebral Palsy needs special treatment through their lifespan. It’s understood that a chronic illness costs a lot more money than a standard care. Cerebral Palsy may result in a physical impairment that may last for the whole life of the sufferer.

The treatment for this condition may require regular doctor visits, many therapies and long hospital stays. Based on the degree of impairment, you may need special health insurance. Many health care professionals will involve, such as vocational therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, orthopedic surgeons, radiologists, pediatrician, neurologists and so on.

Some patients may need the services of more than one. Some may even need a speech pathologist, registered dietician, cosmetic dentists or urologist, to name a few.

So, the coverage offered can help you get some relief as far as the burden of the expenses is concerned. If you don’t sign up, you may suffer from a lot of financial strain and you may need help from other sources like charity organizations and community groups. Therefore, it’s a good idea to benefit from a health insurance.
