Antioxidants, pH and alkalinity are terms that are being used more and more when it comes to health benefits. However, most people are confused by these terms, let alone how they relate to your health.

First off, I will give you a simple description of each of these terms: Antioxidants, pH and alkalinity. Then I will summarize for you what this means to your health as well as what you can do to fight disease and illness. And finally, I will give you a free eBook that will give you an even better understanding of these terms, and the role they play on your health as well as a simpler way to help you achieve optimum health by drinking the right kind of water and eating the right kinds of foods.

  • Antioxidants are molecules that protect you from environmental factors such as pollution, the sun, and toxins in your food and water. Antioxidants are substances such as vitamins C and E, beta carotene and selenium that slow the aging process and give your body the tools to heal already damaged cells. “Anti-oxidants” are the opposite of “oxidants.” Oxidants create unstable molecules called “free radicals” that cause damage to your cells and DNA which in turn lead to disease and premature aging. Oxidation is the rust on a pipe or what happens to an apple after you cut it and leave it out on the counter- it oxidizes, the apple turns brown, it starts to rot. Oxidation leads to disease! The more “antioxidants” you can get the better off you are! Add antioxidants and alkalinity and you have the keys to live a disease-free life.
  • Ph stands for “potential hydrogen” and is a value measured on the Ph scale from 0.0-14.0 with 7.0 being neutral. Any number under 7.0 is acidic, and any number above 7.0 is alkaline. Ph is simply a measure of how acid or alkaline a substance is. People test their swimming pools, fish aquariums, ponds, and soil for Ph and alkalinity levels. You need to test your body fluids. If its important for fish and soil then its important for you. After all your body is 70% water. Most people take better care of their fish than they do their own bodies.
  • Alkalinity is the opposite of acidic. It has a Ph above 7.0 (neutral). It has the ability to buffer and neutralize acids. The higher the Ph measurement of a certain alkaline substance the more buffering or neutralizing power it has on acid. The main thing to know is that Alkalinity neutralizes acids and that leads to a healthier you. You can begin to achieve alkalinity by eating primarily alkaline foods and drinking alkaline water. Alkaline foods are also typically high in antioxidants as well.

All food, when eaten, metabolizes into acid in your body. Pollution, pesticides on your food and other contaminants also metabolize into acid. Too much acid creates an environment that invites disease and allows disease to thrive in your body. An acidic environment feeds disease making it virtually worse and impossible to get rid of. You can find pH test strips online or at your local drug store. Test your urine and saliva for alkalinity to see just how acidic you are. Your body pH should range from 6.5 to 7.0 pH throughout the day. Eat foods and drink water high in alkalinity and antioxidants.

If you’re fortunate enough to have employer-provided health insurance, that narrows your options down to the plans that your employer offers. If you don’t have coverage through your job, perhaps an organization or association that you belong to will allow you to buy health insurance through them at a group rate.

Another option is to check your local Obamacare health insurance marketplace to see if you qualify for an upfront premium credit, which would get you reduced premium costs. Even if you don’t qualify for the credit right away, buying your health insurance through the marketplace means you may qualify for it when you file your tax return for the year.

If you can’t, or won’t, get health insurance from any of these sources, you’ll have to fall back on buying a private plan. It will give you the widest range of options, but likely will be far more expensive.

Decide which type of policy to buy

Health insurance policies come in a variety of basic types, although you may not have access to all of these options through your preferred source. Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) are a very common type of health insurance policy. With an HMO, you’re required to use healthcare providers within the policy’s network, and you have to get a referral from your primary care physician in order to see a specialist.

Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) are also quite common. A PPO health insurance policy has a network, but you’re not limited to in-network care — although using network providers is cheaper — and you don’t need referrals to see specialists.

Exclusive Provider Organizations (EPOs) are a hybrid between HMOs and PPOs. You’re required to stick to the plan’s network, but don’t need referrals for specialists. Finally, Point of Service (POS) plans are a less common option that are essentially the opposite of an EPO. You’re not limited to the POS plan’s network, but do need a referral to see a specialist.

Of the four common types of plans, an HMO or EPO tends to be cheaper than a PPO or POS with the same level of coverage. However, if network coverage is poor in your area, or you’re uncomfortable limiting yourself to network providers, it may be worth paying a little more to get a PPO or POS policy.

High deductible versus low deductible

All things being equal, the higher a plan’s deductible is, the lower the monthly premiums will be. A high deductible means that you’ll have to pay a lot of healthcare expenses yourself before the insurance policy kicks in, but if you have few or no medical expenses in a given year, these plans can be a bargain. Very low medical expenses means that you probably won’t surpass the deductible, even of a low-deductible plan, so getting a high-deductible plan keeps your insurance costs as low as possible while still protecting you in case something catastrophic happens.

If you decide to go the high-deductible route, getting a Health Savings Account (HSA)-enabled plan, and funding it with at least the equivalent of a year’s deductible, is your best option. An HSA plan neatly covers the biggest weakness of a high-deductible health insurance policy – namely, that you’d have to shell out a great deal of money on a major medical expense before the insurance would take over. If you have a full-year’s deductible tucked away in your HSA, you can just use that money to finance your share of the expenses, while simultaneously enjoying the triple tax advantage that an HSA offers.

Comparing coverage

There are two major factors that affect how well a particular plan will cover your medical expenses: the plan’s network and its coverage policies. Even if you choose a plan with out-of-network options, like a PPO, you’re still better off using in-network health providers as much as possible because doing so will reduce your costs. And the rules that a given health …

Here is a workout from 1959 Mr. Universe champion, Bruce Randall.

Randall liked to work mostly upper body with squats or deadlift being his only lower body exercise. He would change his routines frequently and went through different stages as a powerlifter, Olympic lifter and bodybuilder.

As a matter of fact, Randall went from 415 pounds (as a powerlifter and Olympic lifter) all the way down to 223 pounds as a bodybuilder!

Bruce finished second in the 1958 Mr. Universe and was bound and determined to come back stronger the next year. Of course he did and the rest is history.

Some of Randall’s best lifts were 770 pounds in the deadlift, 680 in the squat, 375 in the overhead press and 482 in the bench press.

Below is a typical workout that Randall followed on his way to the 1959 Mr. Universe crown.

Mr. Universe Workout

Overhead Press 3 x 4-6

Bench Press 3 x 4-6

Incline Bench Press 3 x 4-6

Curls 3 x 4-6

Chins 3 x 4-6

Leg Raises 1 x 20-50

Squats or Deadlifts 3 x 6-8

Notes: Randall trained 3-4 days per week and would alternate squats and deadlifts. He eat three meals a day with one or two homemade protein drinks. As always, train hard and with maximum effort. If 3-4 days is too much, lower it to 2 days. Train hard and heavy.

Understand that to be successful in any weight training program – hard work is a must! Half-hearted effort does nothing for you. If you’re new to weight training or grossly out of shape, consult a physician first. End of disclaimer.

Physicians are accompanying their clientele to vacation homes and luxe spa recovery centers. Standards and accreditation are an international effort.

The rich and famous have been taking discrete trips out of the country for years to partake of nip / tuck surgeries, rehab, and other medical endeavors. Now the average American can enjoy an international medical getaway, and take along the whole family for less than the $ 40,000 price tag of one knee surgery in America.

The US has been listed as number 37 by the World Health Organization in Healthcare and one million people traveled outside of the US for medical related services in 2008. A medical retreat at a tropical "luxe" spa seems to be sounding better and better to more people.

Need Operation – Will Travel
Medical tourism, coined as such more recently, has been around since the Romans traveled to heal themselves in mystic locales. In modern terms, top services traveled for are;
o Plastic and reconstructive surgery
o Cosmetic and general dentistry
o Bariactric medicine
o Addiction treatments
o General surgeries
o Health and wellness

If you're are already one of the one million travelers, or considering adding to those numbers, you'll want to know what this all means.

Physicians worldwide join their clients on planes, in foreign hospital rooms and at 5 star spa recovery centers that resemble deluxe hotels. Their alliance with international countries, allows them profitability and exotic surroundings. Some may even be attracted by relaxed laws for more experimental procedures such as stem cell research innovations not yet approved in the US

Today providers such as Johns Hopkins, The Mayo Clinic, and Harvard (to name a few) boast overseas facilities. According to BusinessWeek, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of South Carolina also signed strategic alliances with seven overseas hospitals in 2008.

Your doctor may already be booking appointments in Guatemala, Thailand, Costa Rica or the Philippines. Just ask. Thailand for example, reported 1.5 million people for medical tourism in 2007. Physicians from around the world are registered to practice there. The reach is global and so is the responsibility.

Medical Marketing

My recent trip to Costa Rica on medical tourism included meetings with doctors, spas, government officials and encouraging a call to action for accreditation in medical spa and spa related centers. Costa Rica hosted its first Medical Tourism Congress last year, and is adapting quickly to be a leader in the industry.

Flashy ad's, incentives, and medical tourism "companion packages" bring a lot of attention to foreign medical institutions and their spa and leisure counterparts. Medical tourism can bring, economic growth, prestige, international alliances, and good will. It also brings with it the big question of medical standards and medical spa accreditation. How will the exodus of foreign patients be cared for? The growth also stirs up some stark contrasts with high expenditures to attract medical tourists with glittering centers, and airport improvements compared with the lower public health care of its national people. For the sake of this article let's stick with the first question. Standards.

Patient Trust and Loyalty

A national call to action backed by the government interested in the accreditation is a great starting foundation and was the topic of my meeting with Massimo Manzi, the Chief of Staff for the Ministry of Competitiveness in Costa Rica. Working closely with the International Tourism Board we discussed the growth expectations in medical tourism and the need for accreditation standards for spa / medical spas.

International standards are demanded to effectively blend the cross over with increasing medical tourism and their partnered spa recovery centers. The spa has become the alluring softer side of medical tourism, and a huge part of its growth. The need, particularly in Costa Rica is in creating a strong local incentive, bringing in partnerships, and forming associations. Such as the Costa Rican Spa and Wellness Association, expected to launch this year. After all, the goal here is competitiveness, and ensuring the confidence of potential clients.

With most countries using their own methodology to ensure standards, where is the unification, and how far does accreditation go on a global level?

According to the Medical Tourism Association, their "Quality of Care" program is …

Set objectives on your own

Before you begin, have a clear goal in mind of exactly what you desire to achieve. Do you want to develop muscle or lose weight or perhaps both!

Take your Measurements

Take measurements before you begin your workout program then as soon as a month while you are doing it. If you are losing inches or getting inches in the locations you desire, this method you can correctly track. Compose whatever down as well as take photos, so you have a visual referral for your development.

Arrange your exercises

Similar to you set up service conferences and time with your household, it is critical to organize your activities. As you would not cancel an essential conference; very same method exercises are similarly critical. Put it on the calendar and adhere to it.

Start of Slow

Begin out sluggish and then development if you are brand-new to working out. Pressing too hard prematurely might lead to you hurting yourself and ending up on the sofa and not able to work out.

It’s consistently high to extend in the past and after an exercise, to avoid injury. If you want to get a great stretch and increase your versatility, attempt a yoga class.

Get the correct Devices

Whatever exercise you opt to do, you are going to require some devices. It might be a brand-new set of running shoes, comfy clothing, and sets of weights or treadmill. Do not lose your cash on things you do not require and just purchase exactly what you need to the exercise.

Exercise with a Pal

Working out with a buddy is enjoyable, and you’ll inspire each other to keep going. You will likewise challenge yourself to keep up with them if you have a good friend that is in shape than you are.

Work with a Fitness Instructor

Imagine you are a physician and have a patient with a heart condition. The patient is currently at a friend’s house and is experiencing issues. Your Android phone alerts you of the potential problem. You open the alert and are able to see in real-time your patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels and other vital statistics that will help you determine next steps. You decide that your patient is in distress and send for an ambulance with the touch of a button and immediately call your patient. Your patient’s location is also known because of the GPS in their smartphone.

This scenario is quickly becoming a reality with a recent development in technology: Bluetooth Health Data Profile (HDP). Bluetooth HDP is a new layer on top of the Bluetooth protocol stack that specifies a standard set of instructions for medical devices. The Bluetooth HDP device securely connects and transmits data to a smartphone or other receiver. The data can then be transmitted to a central health management application used by the physicians, nurses, home care providers, etc.

It is true there are thousands of medical devices that are currently Bluetooth enabled. However, until now there has not been a standard set of instructions to exchange data. This means that each device must have its own proprietary application to communicate with. Bluetooth HDP devices will be able to communicate with applications developed to support the new standard. One huge benefit to consumers is that we can buy a heart monitor from one vendor and a blood oxygen meter from another. Both of these devices can now communicate with your health care providers chosen health management system. This is good for the consumer because it give us choice and does not lock us into a single vendor’s solution. We are also able to pick the best of breed hardware and software as well as purchase at competitive prices.

Why do we need a standard set of instructions? Imagine if the web did not use a standard set of protocols and technology to present web pages? This would mean that you would need a specific browser to view a website built with technology X and another for one built with technology Y. One web browser, like Firefox, may or may not work with every website. Because of these standards we can use one browser to surf the web.

Medical device manufacturers and health management software developers will be the largest consumers of this technology. Because we have a growing aging population, healthcare providers need to figure out better ways to provide quality care to their customers and scale with the increasing number of cases. However, there are others that can also take advantage of this technology. For example, cardio equipment manufactures could use Bluetooth HDP to receive data from a heart monitor worn by the user and send it to the treadmill they are running on. The speed of the treadmill could be increased or decreased based on data received from the heart monitor and according to the workout type. The heart monitor could also be used on any other treadmill at any other gym as long as it is a Bluetooth HDP enabled piece of equipment.

The possibilities are endless for the implementation of Bluetooth HDP. Creative individuals and groups will of course push this technology to the limits.

Some Devices Currently Supporting Bluetooth HDP

  • HUAWEI MediaPad
  • uzHealth HDP Weighing Scale
  • Nonin oximeter
  • Android 4.0 Devices, and many others…

Unlike diabetes and other chronic disorders, there is no single test that can detect ADHD.  Rather, ADHD tests and rating scales are used in combination to discern a pattern that determines if a child has ADHD or not.  During the initial evaluation, behavioral scales and questionnaires are indispensable in detecting the presence and severity of symptoms and of other learning disorders, and determining whether the child will need more tests.  If you suspect that your child has ADHD, it might help if he or she takes one of the tests listed below.  Besides symptoms of the disorder, these tests are designed to measure the child’s personality, intellectual functioning, and problem-solving style.  Although some of the behavioral scales listed below can be downloaded from the Internet for free, a professional will need to interpret them for you to understand the results.

Connor’s Rating Scales Revised (CRS-R)

Connor’s Rating Scales (Revised) aims to evaluate and assess the symptoms of ADHD in children through observer ratings and self-report ratings.  The CRS-R test is readily available in guidance offices, clinics, pediatricians’ offices, and mental health clinics, and is usually administered during the initial interview with the parents.  The CRS-R comes in three parts: the self-report (which is to be answered by the child), the teacher report, and the parent report.  The three parts come in long and short versions.  As soon as the test has been completed, the learning expert will display the results in easy-to-understand graphs so you can see the severity of your child’s case and the problem areas that need to be looked into.

Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL)

The Child Behavior Checklist is a parent-rating behavioral scale that is widely used because of its high reliability.  The CBCL is a rather lengthy assessment that includes over a hundred items on the child’s social competence and behavioral problems (e.g., aggressive behavior, depression, anxiety, withdrawal, and other social problems).  Besides detecting ADHD, the CBCL is also used to screen for any possible co-morbid psychological problems or learning disorders that will need to be addressed during treatment.

Barkley Home Situations and School Situations Questionnaire

According to the diagnostic criteria of ADHD, a child’s inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity have to be present in at least two settings: home and the school.  This is the basis behind the design of Barkley’s Home Situations Questionnaire and School Situations Questionnaire rating scales.  These two scales list ADHD-like behavior in the home environment and in the school environment. The teacher and parent are asked to rate the severity of each behavior, and the scale is then given to the appropriate specialist for analysis.  Most schools carry the Barkley Home Situations and School Situations Questionnaire, along with a guide that will help parents and teachers understand the child’s situation, establish a reward system, and decrease unwanted behavior.

SNAP IV Teacher and Parent Rating Scale

The SNAP-IV assessment is also a rating scale to be filled out by teachers and parents.  It contains 90 items that describe inattentive, aggressive, and impulsive behaviors associated with ADHD, as well as a rating scale to measure the severity of each.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA) is a United States federal law which oversees health and safety in both the public and private workplace sectors. Signed into law by President Nixon in 1970, the goal of the law is to ensure the workplace safety of employees, by requiring employers to remove potential hazards such as unsanitary conditions, toxic chemicals, mechanical dangers, and excessive noise.

The legal forerunners of OSHA were introduced with the passing of the Safety Appliance Act in 1893. This was the first federal law to require workplace safety equipment, although it only applied to railroad workers. Later, in 1910, after a series of deadly mine explosions, Congress created the Bureau of the Mines to research improvements in mine safety. With the increased industrial production following World War II, accidents in the workplace soared to an all time high. In the two years preceding the introduction of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, about 14,000 employees died each year from accidents and another 2 million were injured on the job. Additionally, the increase in the use of manufacturing chemicals exposed workers to greater amounts of hazards.

Heightened awareness in the mid 1960’s about the environmental impact of chemical usage increased the public’s interest in protecting worker safety, as exposure to toxins was greater for employees than the environment into which the chemicals were dumped. After President Johnson tried to introduce a comprehensive worker protection bill that later failed, President Nixon proposed OSHA. This compromise bill was less demanding on the employers, although it did utilize the Department of Labor’s ability to enforce employer violations. OSHA officially went into effect on April 28, 1971, which is now celebrated as Worker’s Memorial Day by many American Labor Unions.

OSHA also created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, an agency within the Department of Labor. This Administration has the jurisdiction to create and enforce workplace standards. The Act also formed the independent Occupational Health and Safety Review Commission to review enforcement actions. Finally, OSHA also established the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), another autonomous research organization that forms a part of the Center for Disease Control. By creating independent investigative agencies, OSHA effectively created a systems of bureaucratic checks and balances for the best of worker protection laws and to provide a fair and methodological enforcement of such rules.

As a kid, I remember how I used to run and hop and move in our private play area alongside different children. Online exercises are presently reclassifying the way our kids learn and play. Truly we, guardians, are a piece of this change. I, for one, picked to purchase my children a PC rather than play area gear since I felt more secure keeping them inside than outside. Be that as it may, acknowledging later those online exercises has its perils as well; I brought back the outside recreations into their way of life. Here’s how I did just that!

Allowing them to make a mess

The initial step was to enable my children to get filthy. Rather than looking at open air soil as an obstruction to investigate and have a great time, I exploited this opportunity to educate my children the significance of individual cleanliness. I made it clear that they can play in the soil, however once they venture into the house, the time had come to tidy up as a major aspect of their well being schedule. From adolescence to teenager hood, this enabled my kids to run and move without agonizing over the sweat and mud.

Bring it out

I found that a few things that used to be delighted in inside can be better appreciated outside. This incorporates story books, balls, squares, and yes, the people too! Drawing out a portion of the toys enabled my kids to design better approaches for playing with them. Even our family holding turned out more fun when done outside. Laying a tangle on the ground and drawing out the story books conveyed a fascinating turn to our conventional sleep time stories, while heavenly bodies of stars in the sky was an extraordinary approach to stimulate the creative energy. Indeed, even as my children developed into adolescents, they would in any case set up a portable shelter and hold grill sessions with their companions, comfortable terrace.

Backyard Improvement

I used to convey my kids to a business play area every day in the late evenings. The office guardian disclosed to me that the teeter-totter, swing, slide, wilderness exercise center, sandbox and tic-tac-toe are vital for child improvement. So I took a stab at setting up our own particular play area at home. Obviously it didn’t have the same number of playground structures as the business one, however there was much that I gained from it.

To begin with, we do realize that kids get fit at outdoor playground equipment. All the physical exercises enable them to create more grounded bones and muscles, in addition to the additional banquet of vitamin D from the sun. In any case, what I didn’t know is that you can utilize a play area as an answer for baby fits of rage. This is on account of babies need a feeling of freedom and control over the earth; thus this frequently results to fits of rage. For my children, a free play in the play area was a straightforward approach to satisfy this need.

Invite them in

Before long as I’ve set up the lawn, neighbors began coming in – first the children, at that point their folks. I didn’t envision how a straightforward patio change could enhance one’s social life. My children, my significant other and I all of a sudden discovered individuals who shared and comprehended our sentiments, our interests, our everyday concerns, and even our fantasies.

Go beyond the backyard

I assumed that on the off chance that I genuinely needed to instruct my youngsters about the world, I should go past our own particular terrace. This investigation started with strolls in the recreation center, biking in the side roads and visits to close-by gardens when they were pretty much nothing. As they developed, we’ve crossed towns and nations – making the most of nature’s miracles through stream boating, give in investigations and mountain trekking.

Uniting every one of these encounters makes me understand how far my children have gone – from investigating the patio earth in open air play to building up a bold soul. I do trust that even in the present PC age, kids appreciate similar …
