Osteoarthritis is the breakdown of cartilage, a spongy protein that covers the ends of the bones within a joint. Normal cartilage helps with shock absorption by serving as a cushion at the ends of the bones. The cartilage as the fluid within the joint allows for smooth joint movement. As osteoarthritis progresses, the space between the bones narrows, the cartilage wears down and the underlying bone is exposed. This results in painful movement of the joint as well as limited motion. Bone spurs can develop around the joint, limiting motion further and contributing to more pain. Inflammation plays only a minor role in osteoarthritis.

There are many causes of osteoarthritis, the most well known is the aging process. As we age, the water content of cartilage increases and the protein content decreases. As the water content increases, the cartilage becomes softer, more permeable and loses it’s mechanical properties. The protein content decreases which contributes to slow degeneration of the cartilage, resulting in flaking and erosions.

Other causes of osteoarthritis include abnormal bone alignment. In the foot, the most common cause is faulty foot mechanics. When the foot is not in alignment and not functioning properly, this causes abnormal stress on joints in the foot, ankle, knee, hip and back. Trauma is a well known cause of arthritis. Direct trauma can disturb the joint structures, cause mal-alignment of the joint or cause weakness of the surrounding structures, resulting in instability of the joint and eventual osteoarthritis. Other causes, such as infection, medications (such as steroids) and genetics contribute to the development of arthritis.

Obesity is a common cause of arthritis. The exact mechanism of how excess weight influences osteoarthritis is unclear. Although the excess load placed on joint surfaces will accelerated the breakdown of cartilage, obesity is also correlated with osteoarthritis of the hand, indicating a more systemic cause. Obesity increases the chances of having metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a condition characterized by a set of risk factors which are linked to coronary artery disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. The risk factors include high blood pressure, abdominal obesity (fat around the waist), abnormal cholesterol levels (such as high triglyceride levels & low HDL levels) and insulin resistance (which corresponds with high blood sugar). The underlying theories of metabolic syndrome are tied to the body’s metabolism, most likely insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is the cells inability to efficiently use insulin, a hormone which transports sugar from the bloodstream to the cells. The result is high blood sugar. Insulin resistance is correlated to weight gain and inactivity.

In a recent study in the journal Skeletal Radiology, popliteal artery wall thickness was evaluated in individuals with osteoarthritis. Forty-two patients who were diagnosed with osteoarthritis at multiple joints were compared to 27 patients without osteoarthritis (the control group). An MRI of the knee was used to evaluate vessel wall thickness of the popliteal artery. The osteoarthritis group had thicker vessel walls than the control group, even when the researchers made adjustments for gender, weight and age. Because vessel wall thickness is directly related to high blood pressure and peripheral and coronary artery disease, the authors suggest that osteoarthritis might be another facet of metabolic syndrome.

One theory to explain the link between osteoarthritis and metabolic syndrome is based on white blood cells, immune fighting cells, increasing in areas where fat accumulates, especially around the abdomen (abdominal obesity). As the white blood cells increase, they contribute to widespread inflammation in the body, causing a pro-inflammatory state (as indicated by high blood levels of C- reactive protein) and the production of immune chemicals (specifically cytokines) which cause a chain reaction resulting in damage to the cartilage. The combination of insulin resistance and the pro-inflammatory state may also affect the normal cartilage repair process.

It is possible that osteoarthritis might be an inevitable outcome for those with metabolic syndrome.

1. Love yourself – join an exercise program

Okay, we all know it’s important to exercise. But did you know that joining a program or a gym can help you feel a real sense of community? By making this commitment over time, you get to know others who feel the same way about taking care of themselves. You see each other frequently. It’s a bond that can rival what some find with fellow church members or volunteers for a cause. Those buddies are there for you even when storms occur in other parts of your life – relationships, jobs, and so on. If funds are low, check out city programs or the Y in your area.

If you hate groups, find a workout buddy – OR if you’ve got the cash, a personal trainer. It’s so good to have company on those days when you’re just too tired to work out. And with the trainer, since you’re paying him/her, there’s no commitment. You don’t have to feel bad if you absolutely CAN’T make yourself go. Just reschedule.

2. Treat yourself regularly – you deserve it Reserve time for your favorite pampering activities — pedicure, manicure, waxing, or whatever your bag is. Even if you’re not used to doing this, giving yourself this time is a powerful way to affirm that you are special. If funds are low, give yourself the gift of time to do it for yourself. Go to a salon and have someone show you what to do. As a friend once said – a man’s man who also had pretty good sensitivity, “Hey, if you don’t do it for yourself, why would anybody else?” Another great one – plan a day in bed. No guilt, just enjoy!

3. Open your heart – give as generously as you can Because you’re the only one supplying them, both your time and your money are precious to you. But opening your heart does more than nice things for others – it clears the way for you to receive even more good. Choose a cause you care about and dedicate some time/money. Take the time to choose and purchase gifts that truly reflect your recipient’s personality. If you need ideas, spend some time on Google searching for “gift ideas” for the type of person you’re buying for. Or get to know someone who has that magical ability to put romance in every gift – and then ask him or her!

4. Fall in love! Adopt a pet Unless you’re allergic to every living creature in the world, you’ll get more out of taking care of a pet than it will cost you. Visit the animal rescues in your area. If you don’t have the time or energy for dog walking and don’t like cats, consider a unique lower-maintenance pet – bird, snake, rabbit. Talk to the experts before you go for these types of animals–each requires a learning curve to have the most successful relationship. Look up the House Rabbit Society or similar groups. And be sure to have a backup who’ll take Mortimer when you’re out of town!

5. Don’t live in fear – take reasonable risks with money As the sole support, you likely don’t have much backup if things go wrong. But by making sure you understand what your options are – and realizing the worst possible outcome is probably not as bad as you think – you may be able to spend more than you think. On the other hand, don’t dig yourself in beyond recovery. It’s not fun to live with no credit at all for 7 years – the typical fallout from bankruptcy.

6. Learn to enjoy eating out alone Yes, it can seem hard at first if you haven’t worked up to it. Try this: go to your local coffee shop or café. Order your favorite drink (coffee, latte, wine, whatever) and promise yourself you’ll sit there for at least 5 minutes before you leave. If even that’s too much, at least plan to walk casually down the street with your cup for a few minutes. Next time, order a muffin with your coffee. Practice! If you need distraction, bring a book. Some experienced …

What is Cornsilk?

You might have heard of the name corn silk and wondering what it is. Actually there is nothing complicated with corn silk as it is actually the grain you see inside the corn which you enjoy having in the form of snacks. This is actually a part of Indian food and you can also see a long-hair like string deep inside the corn grain. The shiny hair inside the corn husk indicates the name silk and it is known as zea mays in Latin. Corn silk is very widely used in many medical products as the main ingredient in order to cure many diseases especially while undergoing alternative treatments.

How Is Corn silk Harvested?

You are asked to cultivate the corn silk before the pollination season. This is because after pollination the color of the corn silks turns brown and with the passage of time it will become dry thereby posing difficulties for growing the plant. Actually the corn silk can be obtained in light green or yellow color. It is very important to make use of only fresh corn silk while making various medicinal products.

You can find huge cultivation of the silk in North America right from the ancient times. This is the main reason behind the demand and the popularity of the corn silk in the country. This is used for many medicinal purposes especially in the treatment of heart condition, urinary troubles, malaria, and jaundice and even at the stages of obesity. This also acts as an important medicine during child-birth mainly to control the bleeding of blood which is usually common during this situation.

Can Cornsilk Be Used As Detox Herb?

It is true that corn silk can be widely used for the detoxification of the body. Many studies have been conducted in this field and these studies have revealed the fact that it is rich in vitamin K and it aids in cleansing the body by removing many waste particles through the natural elimination process. Mainly these substances help in increasing the capacity of the kidney to remove waste particles from the body thereby flushing out toxins from the body. Also it helps in clearing the urinary track and also purifies the blood in the body from the harmful effects of toxins.

Corn silk is used as herb in various alternative medicines in order to protect the body from many bacterial attacks and other infections. This plant helps in protecting the body by helping the kidney to remove harmful particles thereby preventing any other kidney related infections from the body. It is also given to small children with problems of bed wetting at younger stages of life and this is very useful in preventing the incident again. Also this is taken by adults in order to protect the body from the bacterial attacks instead of taking any other anti bacterial medicines. This also helps in keeping the entire body fit by preventing any inflammations that can happen with the passage of time. Also it helps in clearing the urinary bladder from any infections due to the accumulation of toxins instead of taking any other kinds of medicines.

Recommended Dosage Of Cornsilk Herb For Treatment

You can take corn silk teas at least trice a day. This can be prepared by adding two teaspoon of herb into water and must boil the mixture for about 10 to 15 minutes. Some of them will find it difficult to sip this type of tea and in that case you can take tincture of corn silk at least three times a day. This can be taken by having 3 to 6ml of tinctures daily.

Kidney Detox Benefits

Corn silk will help in the proper functioning of kidney without causing any effects. Kidney usually functions in order to pump out the toxic waste particles from the body in the form of urine that is excreted out of the body. Corn silk will help the kidney to carry on with the process effectively even after the accumulation of large amount of toxins in the body. This will thereby help in purifying the blood in the body. Also the problem caused by kidney stones due to the intake …

Anytime you can have two for the price of one, that’s a great deal. That is one of the reasons I am rather impressed with the Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper. It bears the versatility of an elliptical mixed with a stepper and the convenience of being able to use both functions in the same workout.

Simple Switching Between Elliptical and Stepper – The modification knobs that are on the Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper let switching from one feature to the other a smooth and simple operation. All you have to do is connect the adjustment knobs to the rail caps and you have a fully functioning stepper home gym. And with the simple movement of switching those adjustment knobs to attach to the pedal sliders, you turn your unit to an elliptical trainer. It is just that simple.

Two Functions for Maximum Exercise Possibilities – the Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper comes packed with alternatives so you can customize your workout program. There are 12 built in programs that you can begin with to make as many as four personalized exercise regimens. Using the option to switch between the elliptical and stepper mode, you receive a thorough body workout while hitting your cardio exercise objectives at the same time in a low impact setting. Obviously some design and engineering genius went into the Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper to offer this much functionality in one home gym.

Many Sports and Many Exercise Goals – To obtain the best you can attain in utilizing the elliptical mode of the Stamina 55-2065 Elliptical, you would need to take up cycling, skiing, stair climbing, and walking. But you can get the good of all of those sports in one workout on this home gym system. There are forward and reverse motions that focus on different exercise goals and muscle groups. The forward mode helps tone the hips, thighs, quadriceps, and buttocks. The reverse mode develops the thighs, calves, hamstrings, and lower buttocks. Joined together, you get a complete lower body toning in one exercise session.

The Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper Review – Negative Aspects

More Resistance Please – while the number of resistance levels that come with the Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper are acceptable, if there were some extra levels at the higher resistance extremes, that would stretch the use of the machine if you ever did get in fantastic shape to get good from it.

Not Really a Body Fat Calculator – It seems foolish that there is a body fat computer on the Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper. You really can only get a correct measurement of body fat utilizing a pinch caliper. So Stamina could have forgot this feature entirely.

More of a Heart Rate Approximation – If you employ the heart rate monitor on the Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper and then take your heart rate using another method, the elliptical will not be very accurate. So don’t count heavily on heart rating measurements you get from the Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper. If a precise heart rate is important to your exercise program, it is suggested to purchase a detached monitor that is committed to this task.

Americans have been told to diligently monitor their cholesterol levels, and if it rises above specific thresholds, 200 for total cholesterol and 130 for LDL, they need to take steps to bring it down to acceptable levels. This is important if we are to avoid heart disease. The result is that about one fourth of all Americans 45 years and older are taking a statin drug, according to the National Center For Health Statistics. While these drugs are successful at improving lipid profile, they are expensive and may cause side effects. Another option is to start an exercise program. Not only can you bring your cholesterol levels down, you would also enjoy the other benefits of an active lifestyle such as better energy, improved mood, and a stronger immune system.

Exercise can improve lipid profile by decreasing LDL and increasing HDL. This is done in a variety of ways. One of the most obvious ways is by allowing you to maintain a healthy weight, which is associated with lower LDL levels.

Researchers also believe that there are 2 other ways that exercise can reduce LDL. The first way is that exercise increases the size of the proteins that carry cholesterol through the blood. Smaller denser particles are considered more dangerous because they can get into the linings of the heart and blood vessels and cause damage, so keeping these particles larger reduces the risk of heart disease.

The second way is that exercise stimulates enzymes that help remove LDL from the blood and blood vessel walls and moves them to the liver for excretion. This is important because the body needs cholesterol for healthy functioning but it needs a way to get rid of the cholesterol when it is done with it. This process is a way of staying balanced.

Exercise can also raise HDL levels. Most studies have shown that aerobic exercise can increase HDLL by 3-6%.

So what kind of exercise is most effective for cholesterol levels? Research has shown that intense exercise is effective at improving levels, while less intense exercise is effective at maintaining levels. An elliptical trainer is a versatile fitness machine that will allow you to design a workout routine that will achieve either of these goals. If you are a couch potato and want to become fit you can start our slow, then use the features of the elliptical, such as resistance, incline, and strides per minute, to gradually increase the intensity as your fitness improves. The lower rate of perceived exertion, which means your body is working harder than it feels, makes it easier to maintain intense exercise levels. Since an elliptical workout is low impact, you can enjoy the benefits of fitness even if you have joint problems. And the pre set programs allow you to vary your workouts which will help avoid burnout.

Maintaining health cholesterol levels is important if you want to live a long and active life. A regular exercise program on a new or used elliptical trainer can give you a healthy lipid profile without the use of expensive drugs that may cause side effects.

It Beachbody’s 21 Day Fix worth it? With so many fitness programs out there, it is hard to tell which are worth the money, and which are a waste of money. Let’s take a look at The 21 Day Fix and evaluate the real value of Beachbody’s program.

The first thing to look at when evaluating the worth of a program is whether or not the trainer is someone you should be listening to. Anybody can film a workout DVD. That doesn’t mean that you should listen to just anyone. The trainer that Beachbody worked with for this program is Autumn Calabrese. She currently holds personal training certifications from The National Academy of Sports Medicine and American Fitness Professional and Associates. She is also a national bikini competitor, and has been praised for her simple portion control techniques. She has also helped a large number of clients lose weight safely and effectively. Throughout the 21 day of the program you will workout for about 9 hours. In a gym you would expect to pay about $40 per hour for a personal trainer. While I am sure that Autumn Calabrese charges more, let’s use $40 to be safe. So, based on the hourly rate of a personal trainer, we are up to a $360 value for the 9 hours of working out.

The next thing to look at to decide if The 21 Day Fix is worth it is whether or not anything else included in the program other than the workouts? The answer is yet. The big part if the portion control system. Autumn has created a system using different color and size Tupperware containers. Each one is specific to a specific food group. You simply fill each container each day, and that s what you eat. It is hard to put a price on this system, since this is the only place that it is available. So, for the containers, I will put them at the value of a package of Tupperware containers. Let’s use $10, bringing us up to $370 total.

Next, we need to look at the nutrition guide. This guide is loaded with recipes and ideas that can be used to fill your containers. Consulting a nutritionist can be extremely expensive, but since it is Autumn, let’s just say it would be another hour at the $40 personal trainer rate. That puts us at $410 so far.

Let’s ignore the WOWY support system that Beachbody gives you access to once you purchase The 21 Day Fix, and the support that you receive from your coach, and we can leave the total at $410. What is the actual price of the program? The answer is $60. So, looking at this in a strictly mathematical sense, is The 21 Day Fix worth it? Absolutely!

Self-think has the power to make or break anyone. The power of thought can be examined through word release and illustrated behaviors. In order to become whole, positive thinking must increase to escape random negative cycling. Advancing the fragments of your power key, unlocks the door to self-realization and success. Working your, you vision; scoping inner works; curing grounds, through planned demolition can be exciting and invigorating as it solidifies wholeness of health, love and soul. Time is worth its weight in gold, highly valuable, irrevocable, able to leap a mountain in a single bound, faster than a speeding bullet, totally performance measureable.

Many would agree that we never get enough of it, yet most people take it for granted and then draw back perplexed as to where it was all spent, having nothing substantial to show for it. That was the good news, here’s even better news, time, so long as it’s on your side welcomes your go at it. It is said that, until you value your time, no one will find you valuable. Wasting time sends a serious message to those who are or could be potential stakeholders toward your “making-me-over project”. In summary those who waste their own time pretty much would be of very little value to the next guy. Becoming whole in a fraction rich world, of individuals looking in all the wrong places, can be an erroneous and disappointing pursuit. Whole is something that begins and evolves within. People who think and live in fractional states are not doing so, because they were created that way. They delay wholeness and success because of poorly planned take-offs i.e. execution.

There are critical steps that if overlooked could potentially wind up much like a rocket exploding before getting off the ground. What’s in your hand, who’s heading plans, what’s in your way? These are important questions in the equation that should be taken seriously. Where are you going, before doing the ground work in the way of discovery? Coming to know self may not an easy pill to swallow, but if you begin to nibble on the truth after a while it does the body good. It may not taste so hot at first, in fact it might even stink, but it gives you a chance to remix the recipe cutting back here, adding there, mixing thus and such. Step 1, will begin by taking your mind, eye and ear off others, for a season. This is a critical time during which you will need to be a little selfish so that when you get back to being selfless you will be of greater value to self and others. Get to know the brand true you, the “not so bad after all” person that drives destiny and does not mind leaping even, against all odds. Looking at self is major but it ensures grounds for become one success, in three phases; “Demolition Readiness”; “Branding My Brilliance” & “Authentic and Loving It.” Demolition Readiness.

  1. Settle down, be still, increase focus and clarity
  2. Take a deep look at your authentic self
  3. Be honest assess the good, bad and indifferent
  4. Note the falsities, fruitless and potentially detrimental
  5. Be willing to make adjustments; evacuate/eliminate for the greater good
  6. Assess strengths, celebrate the discovery of developmental opportunities
  7. Schedule Demolition, begin with self
  8. Prepare your runway for both take-off and landing

How awesome it will be to discover that the whole, draw success from near and far, are magnets for love and frequent the “yes” zone. They are clear winners and people want to attach themselves to winning networks. Getting to the yes can be like daily bread, making you more than marketable, by becoming an unconquerable brand. Be mindful, time requires that you respect, maximize and honor the grace it offers. Don’t put off tomorrow what can anchor your win today. Get that slate straight, spend quality time with self. You deserve your undivided attention and will celebrate what you’ve done and become. Defy the eleventh hour’s grip as you have the power to break the bondage of procrastination. My clients used a dumpster in the 4th quarter of 2010 to move matters of mountainous effect. You may find this …

I am a Zumba instructor and love to try other intense cardio workouts.

In this article you will find my review of Turbo Fire as well as information on where you can get it and other Beachbody fitness programs for a great price.

I first saw Turbo Fire on an Infomercial one night while flipping through channels. What drew me into watching the whole commercial were the dance music hits and the fun moves that went along with them. The moves also looked like they were mixed with cardio and resistance training. This was a huge plus in my book.

In the beginning, you definitely have to go slow in order to learn the moves since they can go pretty fast.

This program is great in that there is a ‘New to Class’ option that is like a tutorial for some of the moves.

When you start the actual workouts, you just jump in and go. There is no stretching exercise at first; only a brief warm up. This is the same for my Zumba classes and I love how my heart gets pumping right away. I feel as though I am definitely getting a better workout.

Turbo Fire is a combination of kickboxing and dance moves which is what makes it so much fun.

If you have done Zumba before, this program is like Zumba on steroids. It is a lot more intense and will get you a lot more toned than just having a regular cardio workout.

The HIIT classes that Turbo provides are like intense fat burning workouts. And the best part is that you get 3 DVDs filled with these great little workouts.

There are also 2 Fire EZ classes. These classes are not as intense, but they hold their place in the program still offering a good part to the fitness routine.

With all the intense classes that come with Turbo Fire, Chalene (the fitness guru of TF) definitely did not forget the stretching classes. Stretching is essential after warming up the muscles, and Turbo gives you a nice 40 minute routine, as well as a 10 minute stretch included with each workout.

For those of you who have never done HIIT classes before, this program comes equipped with a prep schedule in order to get your prepared for these workouts.

I found the toning classes to be some of the best I have taken yet. Chalene definitely favors push-ups, and her push up routines will definitely get your upper body in shape.

The kickboxing includes jabs, crosses, hooks, uppercuts, round-house and push kicks, pump its, zigzags and many other forms.

There are also a couple new moves named after this product, as well as other new combinations and variations of older ones.

There is a good amount of plyometrics (jumping) so it’s best to make sure that your knees are in pretty good shape before getting heavily involved in this program.

The music that is chosen for this workout set is great. There are a lot of 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and modern dance hits all included. You will get songs like “Push It”, “Bad Girls” and “Proud Mary”. You will also hear great performing artists like Donna Summer, Flo Rida, Tina Turner, and lots more.

Where To Get It At A Good Price.

As you can probably tell from my review of Turbo Fire, the program is absolutely great. The only thing that was a turn off for me was the price.

The good thing was that I was able to get the entire workout at Amazon for a really great price. Even better, the program came with some other cool stuff.

Although this program is on the more expensive side for fitness DVDs, it is definitely worth it. I have never been in better shape.

This article was originally submitted for publication on August 9, 2010 and has since been updated and revised as additional information on BPA could be verified.

Take the number one and double it. Now take the number two and double it. And with the number four you now have the easy to remember formula to your “possible” good health. But not so fast. These three numbers, one, two and four, so-called “resin identification code” numbers found within the ubiquitous triangle on most, not all, plastic pieces were the brainchild of the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) in 1988 for the environmental purpose of recycling. They stand in contrast to the numbers three, five, six and seven and what makes these three numbers “safe numbers” is their lack of the toxic chemical Bisphenol A, (BPA for short), which is inherent in the remaining four numbers.

BPA, a synthetic estrogen having industrial and dental applications, is the chemical that has been shown to leach into food including baby foods and formulas from BPA plastics and cans that are lined with BPA. This writer will not pretend to offer expertise on the subject. I have none. However, the Centers For Disease Control (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as of this writing, each post online over 300 technical entries on BPA. I’m sure other federal agencies may also address this serious matter of public health concern. The most comprehensive non-technical reporting on Bisphenol A is provided by the donation funded Environmental Working Group (EWG.org) and the search engine of the Center For Science In the Public Interest (CSPINET.org) also provides topics of concern on Bisphenol A while maverick physicians like Joseph Mercola, D.O. (mercola.com) openly discuss online the hazards posed by BPA.

In a random, non-scientific inquiry I inventoried my own home only to discover shocking results. Naturally my first inclination was to inventory any type of plastic that was even remotely connected to foods and beverages. Real old plastic containers used for food leftovers, like Rubbermaid for instance, understandably lack the numbered triangle. Instead, some pieces may have a number within a circle, the meaning of which is unknown. On to the post 1988 products and my first, and somewhat surprising item, is a Styrofoam carton housing a dozen eggs which bears the number six (6), a BPA-containing carton. I can’t help but wonder if somehow this toxic chemical can permeate a porous eggshell barrier over a given period of time so my egg purchases today come in sturdy cardboard cartons that have no possible adverse effects on eggs and are very safe to recycle.

From an egg carton I move on to the colorless plastic bottles used for juices such as Tropicana. I have several of these, different brands and sizes. I routinely use them to refrigerate filtered tap water and they all seem to have the number one (1), but I’m dismayed when, under magnification, I examine their hard, colored plastic bottle caps but find no resin identification codes. I force myself to avoid speculation.

I have two food containing tubs in the fridge, a Kraft Philadelphia Whipped Cream Cheese, a must for my customary lox and bagel breakfast, and Stonyfield’s Oikos Organic Greek (nonfat) Yogurt, my occasional health food lunch. They bear the numbers seven (7) and five (5) respectively and I’m too miffed to check the lids!

Over the years I somehow managed to accumulate those hard plastic water bottles with company logos that conveniently rest in automobile cup holders and often contain hot beverages. Now alarm sets in. All but two “safe” bottles, from the National Medical Association and G. H. Bass Clothing, bear the number five (5), but two findings compound the problem. None of the plastic caps have resin identification codes and all were manufactured in China, which notoriously manufactures merchandise having lead based paint. Add hot coffee, tea or other hot beverage to these vessels and the resulting chemical interaction could conceivably be harmful, even toxic, to a chemical sensitive person.

So it’s off to the fast food joints but only to check the take-out beverage fountain cups, not the Styrofoam food containing dishes. None of these cups can be used …

Are you shopping for a Bowflex Revolution Home Gym? I was fascinated by those fancy Bowflex infomercials and decided to buy one. I’m usually not an impulsive buyer but I took the challenge since they offer a 6-week money back guarantee if you’re not 100% satisfied. One of the important decisions I had to make was which model to get.

Bowflex has 3 different flavors of the Revolution Home Gym. Below, I’ve outlined the most prominent differences to help you in your shopping decisions.

But First, What Is The Bowflex Revolution? The Bowflex Revolution is their flagship line-up of home gyms. Unlike their power rod units, the Revolution uses Spiraflex technology. Spira what? Spiraflex is a patented technology that uses elastic wrapped around a coil to create controlled tension. The result is increased muscle isolation, control, and faster development. I would best compare it to a high quality cable machine. Although the Power Rods work quite well (found in earlier models), they do not offer the versatility and intensity of the Revolution gyms.

When you perform an exercise on the Revolution, the cables fight with you the whole time, providing constant tension from the start to finish. The result is an awesome pump as your muscles are completely blasted into total failure! It’s similar to the feel you get with weights but in same ways better. With free weights, the resistance tapers off towards the top of the contraction. Not so with the Revolution. The resistance remains consistent, which produces better and more intense workouts. Don’t worry, the Revolution is gonna kick your butt and give you a refreshing super charged workout that will leave your body pumped and feeling great! It did for me.

So, Let’s Compare The 3 Different Revolution Home Gyms:

Bowflex Revolution FT: This is the entry level Revolution. It packs 90 exercises, 400 variations, and plenty of versatility. It includes a leg press plate, 5-position foot harness, squat harness, and a training DVD. If you can live without a lat tower attachment (only available on the XP and flagship model), you can save yourself up to $1,000. This makes it the best deal out of the three. The FT is perfect if you want a more compact home gym but with all the great features, results, and versatility of the Revolution series. It packs 200 lbs of resistance, which can be upgraded to 280 lbs, making it challenging for most athletes.

Bowflew Revolution XP: Sold only factory-direct, the Revolution XP features the same number of great exercises as the FT but with the benefit of the lat tower. For me personally, the price difference doesn’t really justify the need for the lat tower but I’m sure some will disagree. The XP is compact, versatile and like all the Revolutions, whisper quiet during operation. It offers 200 lbs of resistance (upgradeable to 280 lbs).

Bowflex Revolution: It’s funny how the flagship name is the same as the product line up. This can be confusing. Anyways, the Revolution is bigger and more versatile than either the XP or FT. It features 100 exercises, 400 variations, a lat tower, and all the other benefits of the other two. This would be the one to get if you must have the greatest amount of workout options. Athletes and serious weightlifters will benefit the most.

This guy comes with 220 lbs of resistance, which can be upgraded, to a big 300 lbs for upper body ad 600 lbs for lower body workouts. No wonder this is the flagship! Certainly, this model is the most expensive so that is something to take into consideration.

Which Is My Favorite? It depends on your needs but for me, my number one pick has been the FT. It gives me everything I need at a reasonable price and a more space friendly size. If you need to do lat pull downs, then go for the XP. If you can afford it and want the ultimate workout, then the Revolution is the one. Which ever one you get, it will be impossible not to build a great body! And with the 6-week money back guarantee from Bowflex, you have nothing to lose.
