It Beachbody’s 21 Day Fix worth it? With so many fitness programs out there, it is hard to tell which are worth the money, and which are a waste of money. Let’s take a look at The 21 Day Fix and evaluate the real value of Beachbody’s program.

The first thing to look at when evaluating the worth of a program is whether or not the trainer is someone you should be listening to. Anybody can film a workout DVD. That doesn’t mean that you should listen to just anyone. The trainer that Beachbody worked with for this program is Autumn Calabrese. She currently holds personal training certifications from The National Academy of Sports Medicine and American Fitness Professional and Associates. She is also a national bikini competitor, and has been praised for her simple portion control techniques. She has also helped a large number of clients lose weight safely and effectively. Throughout the 21 day of the program you will workout for about 9 hours. In a gym you would expect to pay about $40 per hour for a personal trainer. While I am sure that Autumn Calabrese charges more, let’s use $40 to be safe. So, based on the hourly rate of a personal trainer, we are up to a $360 value for the 9 hours of working out.

The next thing to look at to decide if The 21 Day Fix is worth it is whether or not anything else included in the program other than the workouts? The answer is yet. The big part if the portion control system. Autumn has created a system using different color and size Tupperware containers. Each one is specific to a specific food group. You simply fill each container each day, and that s what you eat. It is hard to put a price on this system, since this is the only place that it is available. So, for the containers, I will put them at the value of a package of Tupperware containers. Let’s use $10, bringing us up to $370 total.

Next, we need to look at the nutrition guide. This guide is loaded with recipes and ideas that can be used to fill your containers. Consulting a nutritionist can be extremely expensive, but since it is Autumn, let’s just say it would be another hour at the $40 personal trainer rate. That puts us at $410 so far.

Let’s ignore the WOWY support system that Beachbody gives you access to once you purchase The 21 Day Fix, and the support that you receive from your coach, and we can leave the total at $410. What is the actual price of the program? The answer is $60. So, looking at this in a strictly mathematical sense, is The 21 Day Fix worth it? Absolutely!

In preparation for a Muay Thai fight, I have been on a diet the past few weeks, and have enjoyed some pretty good results. The beauty of the diet I am on, is that it allows a cheat day once a week. The cheat day actually encourages you to go absolutely bonkers for 14 hours each week.

There is some science behind it, but that is fodder for another post.

I have been craving tacos the past few weeks, so I decided to organize a Tacothon.

The premise behind the Tacothon was to root out the BEST tacos in Salt Lake City.

I invited a few friends along, (Many of them are MMA Fighters or Muay Thai students) and this is what we found:

I wanted to begin the day with 'Fast Food' tacos. We have all been there … late at night, hunger strikes … waddya gunna do? There is nothing tastier after a night of drinking than a few tacos … that is if you can get through the drive through without getting into a fist fight with other late night Taco Lovers.

I should point out that we conducted this Tacothon on a Sunday (My designated CHEAT DAY). Taco Time, as well as many other highly referred Taco places, were closed on the Sabbath.

FAST FOOD

I picked up a party pack from both Taco Bell and Del Taco.

I went to my gym, where I met up with my fellow Tacothaners and ate some tacos.

It was nice to see some of them, as I haven't been the most social person the past few months as I have been recovering from knee surgery.

We busted open the party packs and gave them a try. The Taco Bell Party pack had 12 tacos in it, and cost just over $ 15.00. The Del Taco had 10 tacos, but was almost half the price.

The Del Taco tacos were literally ½ the size of Taco Bell's though and failed miserably on the taste test.

Taco Bell wins by a unanimous decision.

TACO TRUCKS

Next, we decided to try out the famous Taco Trucks that so many people talk about on State Street in downtown Salt Lake City.

There are two in the Sears parking lot at 800 South State Street, and two one block South at 900 South State Street.

The first one we visited faces South (Toward 800 South) in the Sears Parking lot. Compared to the 'Fast Food' we had just indulged in, it was Heaven on Earth. Very tasty tacos, and cost $ 1.00 apiece.

The other faces East (Toward State Street). We asked each to serve us their best Taco. This truck recommended the Cabeza, and it did not disappoint. VERY tender meat, and super delicious … VERY GOOD!

The third truck we visited Faces East (Toward State Street) on 900 South. They were just OK. By far, the worst of the four trucks we visited.

The final truck we visited faced South on 900 South. We have a winner. These were some of the tastiest tacos I have ever tasted. Hands down the winner of the Taco Trucks. The name of the truck is El Rey Del Taco. Give them a try.

All of the trucks were consistent on price. They all charged $ 1.00 per taco, served them on small soft tortillas, and had a similar array of condiments. The El Rey Del Taco also had the best salsa of the four trucks we visited.

If you are hankering for a taco, and don't want to deal with the hassle of going to a restaurant, check out the Taco Trucks downtown. Try the different trucks for yourself. At a buck a taco, you can't go wrong.

RESTAURANTS

As I mentioned before, we made our Taco Adventure on Sunday, so many of the places that were recommended to us were not open. As far as I'm concerned, you don't deserve a mention if you don't serve on Sunday anyway.

The Journey So Far.

I cannot tell you how many times I have listened to a particular article by Orison Swett Mardon (founder of SUCCESS magazine). Hearing these truths that I've pracrised in so many areas of my life being shared by someone who has applied them in financial realms, brings such wonderful encouragement to me. I have the privilege of knowing by experience that they work and that I only need to apply them as committed to to this facet of my life to see the same level of freedom emerge.

Isn't it amazing how we can know the answer, can know what to do, yet take so long to simply do it ?! Sigh .. that's because the inferior thinking has a very sound hold. We have to get to that place where we are unwilling to accommodate the condition any more or make excuses for our poor lot. Never, having accepted total responsibility, have I failed to achieve that for which I am. When the 'want to' is big enough, and commitment to the desired outcome unfailing-then, you can call it "DONE!"

Every hour of every day, all that I've built in my heart over my life is being fortified anew through the attending to the Truths I choose to own fully. If you've never really applied yourself to mental discipline, it will take a little while, but there are no shortage of great ways to help yourself. Watch the "How to Bring It" introduction video!

The entire program is great and is the best program that I have ever used!

Here are a couple of suggestions of what to do on Sunday after you watch the introduction video and before you get started on the first workout on Monday …

1. Put your p90x calender on the wall somewhere you can see it every day and put a pen or marker by it or attached to it on a string.

2. Have your water bottle or container out of the cabinet and full of good filtered water. I do not recommend buying bottled water. It is not good for you, it does not quench your thirst and it cost to much. (That is my opinion)

3. Make sure your pull up station is ready with a chair nearby to assist you. They will teach you how to do modified exercises, including pull ups using a chair.

4. Have your weights set up in a place that you can quickly grab them during your workout.

5. Make sure that you have printed out the worksheets that go with P90X if you did not get some in your package and have them ready. I have the printable worksheets on my website to download if you ever need more. Find them under "Downloads" on the left sidebar of my site.

6. Get a hand towel and place it with your stuff at your workout area.

7. If you are using the bands … Have those set up and ready to go.

8. Have your yoga mat ready and nearby for when you need it. You will need it the very first day for the Ab Ripper section.

9. Make sure you have plenty of space to jump up! You don't want to throw your hands into a ceiling fan or a light fixture.

10. MOST IMPORTANT !!! Take the time to write down your fitness goals and post them where you can see them everyday and night!

11. TAKE YOUR BEFORE PICTURE !!! (I can't stress that enough.)

12. And finally … Remember this … as you are recording your information on the worksheets on the days that have them … Strive to beat what you did the time before at least by one rep and / or increase your weights .

All of these things will help prepare you to have a smooth start and a successful 90 days of P90X. Learning how to bring it, is a constant and never ending improvement.

It is widely believed that eating dark chocolate is good for cardiovascular health. Some health and lifestyle experts, however, emphasized that there is no evidence for this fact. According to the new study, the researchers from Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), university of South Australia, university of Warwick Medical School and university of Maine suggested that consuming a small amount of chocolate every day can help to prevent insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. The study considered the data of 1,153 people between the ages 18 and 69. When comparing the health of various participants, the research group found lower insulin resistance and healthy liver enzymes in those who claimed that they ate around 100g of chocolate every day. Insulin resistance is one of the very important factors determining the onset of cardiovascular diseases.

The academic researchers proposed the hypothesis that chocolate can be useful for insulin sensitivity and liver enzymes. This study is conducted rigorously, noting down the lifestyle and diet preferences of the participants. The consumption of tea and coffee is also monitored. Both tea and coffee contain polyphenol which is useful to accelerate cardiometabolic effects of chocolate.

The visiting academic at the University of Warwick Medical School, and Scientific Director of department of population health at LIH, Prof Saverio Stranges said that cocoa based products can be suggested as dietary recommendation to improve cardio health and metabolism. However, he added that the results are simply observatory and more robust evidence based trials are required. He also emphasized that natural cocoa product is entirely different from highly processed commercial chocolates.

Among those who participated in the study, 80% of the individuals said that they eat at least 24.8g of chocolate every day. These people were active, young and had higher educational status compared to those who did not eat chocolate regularly. The principal investigator of the study, Dr. Ala's Alkerwi said that the people who consumed chocolate had significant socio-demographic profiles, better health access and healthy lifestyle habits. This can also be an important contributor for the reaction of the body to insulin and liver biomarkers.

I dove head first into this diet to achieve one thing, not to lose the weight, but to see what it does to my blood pressure without depending on blood pressure medication. I’ll still eat my three square meals a day and use the green tea solution as my snack in between meals. Because believe me, I love my in-between snacks, and who doesn’t? So in the beginning of March, I took my last blood pressure pill, and bombs away!

After drinking green tea for the first week, I’ve noticed a drop in my blood pressure readings close to what they were when I took blood pressure pills. I was shocked because I didn’t think there was something that could have dropped it like that. I’ve also noticed a less desire to eat when I drink the tea, I don’t know where it comes from, but it could be a result on filling up on fluids. After another couple weeks, my blood pressure has held steady, so I know it is doing its thing. And after the final days, still no spike in the readings, so I was hooked. In the thirty days, I have also lost seven pounds, very nice! It seemed to me the urban legend was the truth! The one negative, green tea is not the most tastiest of teas, it kind of has that hint of grassy seaweed taste, but you get used to it.

In addition, from what I understand, green tea has antioxidants to prevent sickness, make our skin feel smooth, and protect our memory. But by seeing the short term effects, I can say that I will make green tea a regular staple in my diet. I would not recommend green tea pills as they have caffeine in there, don’t want to be up into the wee hours of the morning! All in all, my thirty day test has proven that green tea has great positive properties that just can’t be ignored. Let’s see what other effects it has six months from now!
